I lost more fish today than I usually catch, unbelievable. First 2 Largemouth jumped at the boat and threw the hook! First fish in the boat was a Rocky. Finally got a 1.5 LM in the boat at the guarantee tree . Next bite was a Snot Rocket at the brushpile, who also jumped off at the boat, ok by me. I tried some new wood and hooked a nice fish that dove into the sunken tree and got hung up. After 5 minutes of trying to get her out I wrapped the 10lb braid around my pliers and tried pulling her out but the braid broke at the pliers. Went back to the guarantee tree, and hooked another bass who dove into the tree and broke the 8lb leader. Went to the northwest shore on my way to the ramp. Found lots of fish but the first 2 LM pulled the same stunt as earlier, jumping at the boat and throwing the hook. I managed to catch a 1.5lb Smallie , and just as it started to sprinkle caught the fish of the day, a 2.75 LM. A very frustrating day, but lots of action anyway, capped off with unpredicted rain.....

I have had some places like that.
Up until this year that is. πŸ˜―πŸ€¨πŸ‘Ž

I usually get at least one Bass off this tree, but sometimes a Pickerel moves in and spooks the bass. If I catch the Pickerel, I go back later and catch a Bass.

Nice action there Fred, that rocky looks like a darn good one. Didn’t get out today but sure wish I would’ve after yesterday’s frustrating wind. Quite calm here today, a buddy and his son were down for sea bass off Shrewsbury rocks in Jersey and said the ocean was like glass. They did pretty well with 16 keepers between the two of them and released quite a few.

Thanks Brad. Lots of that size around here, 3/4 of a pound or so. The wind wasn't bad here most of the day, maybe 5-10 . Got a little gusty when the rain clouds moved in. It was a great day to be at the shore, and Seabass are delicious.

Sounds like a real good day Fred. A lot more activity than I managed.

Thanks Jimmy. Lots of action, just not a lot to show for it.

We catch a close relative of the Rock Bass in local rivers. It is called sa Roanoke Bass and can grow over 2 lbs.

Our record Rock Bass is only 1lb 3oz. I caught a 1lb 7oz one 3 or 4 years ago, but I didn't know what the record was. Released it back into East Twin Lake.

The wind didn't seem too bad for me today, but the angle it came from kept trying to spin the boat It was a PITA.

Nothing on the Tightline rod Butch. I tried it on a couple dropoffs, and even threw it into a school of Trout that were feeding on a school of small baitfish.

Yeah that's the only drawback to high sided aluminum boats. They're light, and catch the wind.

Sure was an active day buddy, glad you got some action. I went with my grandson and caught 4 lmb, small ones and missed lots of hits on Texas rigged worm black with a chartreuse twister tail I think they were hitting short, grandson had 2 throw his hook while jumping and he had lots of short hits also.

I was fishing the same color pattern today and had the same problem. I think they were homing in on the tail.

Thanks Mark. Glad you and your GS caught some too. Today must have been "Throw the Hook " day. I had one that stripped the worm off, but I figured it was another Rocky. At least the water's warming up and they're getting active.
