The rain subsided for a few days so finally made it out on the lake. Fishing was good, catching not so! The black & white critter lives at Lake Skinner. Three reasons me thinks. There was a tournament there Sunday with about 50 boats (very few fish caught). Water still in the high 50's and needs to get into the 60's before the spawn will start.
By taking a tremendous amount of water out for a maintenance project, and then rapidly filling it back up didn't help the fishing at all. No fish in the shallows at all. I talked to one guy who got a couple of small ones on a drop shot.
Other than that, there were about 10+ other boats out with the same results that I had. Oh well, got out and it was a fairly nice day on the water. Wonder what it feels like to catch a fish?? Hmmm, more rain on the way, what now?

I no how your feeling! I’ve had my share of that black and white critter so far this year, this year is going to take a lot of patience. Please let this be the last storm and it’s starts to warm up. Good luck and be safe!!

After reading this post I think you already know what the fishing is going to be like in the DVL. Hope things get back to normal very soon for Y'all over there.

Going to be a trying year for fishing, but I will catch some before long

Sorry to hear that Garey, but at least you got out buddy. It's still cold and wet here, with another possibility for snow and rain this weekend. Spring is sure dragging it's feet getting here. I'm hoping it settles down on both coasts soon, and we can get back to catching, brother.
Thanks for the Report..I fish Skinner a few times a season...hopefully picks up soon

Amen to that !!
I have put new line on all my reels and checked all my gear and what I need to get for the beginning of the season .
I'm going crazy 🤪 😜 .
Tried of the rain it's raining now here I know we we probably still need the rain and snow ❄️ but I'm over it.
And sorry for those who were flooded out.
I feel may should be great the water 💧 in the lakes and rivers should be clear by then , or end of April.
Can't wait to get the boat out and fish hard.
Good luck Matt ,be careful on the the banks.
Hey Garey… lots of large & smallmouth up here. Only issue is they are still trapped under 2 ft of ice 😉

Thanks JB, with what is going on down here in our lakes a trip back to Montana has certainly crossed my mind.
I do plan on going to Idaho to fish with Randy for steelhead when the weather breaks in a few weeks. I know you must be getting anxious to get back out there and catching again. Stay safe my friend.
FYI: not sure whereabouts in Idaho you’re headed, but check out Dworshak Reservoir on line. They have turned that huge body of water into a world class smallmouth fishery. The size and quantity of fish being caught are insane. I’ll be headed there this year. Know of an individual that recently caught a 40 lb five fish limit (you can watch it on YouTube). Not exactly close or easy to get to, and almost no pressure. Check it out

I think you may have fished with CatfishHunter (Randy) in Riggins,Id. Will definitely check out Dworshak, thank for the info. An 8lb avg is totally insane!

JB .... That's an incredible catch, 8# average ! Wow. Is there a five fish limit, or was this a tournament? Either way, & I don't mean to preach here, but I'm hoping that with their excellent genetics, they're back in swimming around for spawning opportunities.
