Went ultralight jigging in a 52 degree Central Jersey beaver pond this evening. Caught and released a black crappie and golden shiner with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line after adding 300 yards of PLine fluoroclear to my Shimano R2000 spinning reel. Water is still too cold for fishing with lures. Saw turtles, redwing blackbirds, wood ducks, ringneck ducks, Canada geese, two hawks, a bald eagle, a great blue heron and beavers. The pond is loaded with weeds and algae already. Took pics.

Be careful on Beaver ponds. They can be aggressive and nasty. I was fishing in North Jersry once when one swam towards me slapping its tail , then started hissing and growling and showed its teeth. I moved about 50 yards away and it went back to its lodge.

Thanks. I had many encounters with beavers 🦫 and none were aggressive yet. Yahoo news had a story about a beaver killing a fisherman in Belarus a few years ago.
