Hi everyone, at 1 time we had the the Largest Freshwater Lake Basin, Tulare Lake in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. And Land grabbers like Boswell & Salyer farmers ? Leased the land from greedy politicians at the time for $1 an acre,, land that never belonged to Sacramento to begin with, now they are complaining that there crop cow cash is being ruined by our recent floods ,, maybe they should suck it up or grow a pair as I've heard on here, People ! And their family's are what is important, not these rich don't care about anyone else but themselves Fat Cats..

don't know nothing about what you are referring to but just curious are you saying they drained the lake in order to turn it into farm land?

Yes , they diverted the (San Joaquin,Kings,Kaweah,Tule,Kern) rivers into canal systems so water never reaches the basin now, only times like now that we are being flooded does water get there , my complaint is they are now asking for federal funds to help them with their crop losses, I've seen home 16 millimeter films on the PBS channel of what it use to look like , it was huge !

I think you are correct if you build your farm on a flood plain don't complain when it floods that was the risk you accepted. you take the risk you reap the reward or loss and if I don't share in the gain I shouldn't share in the loss

oh I'm sure there are enough farms around to pick up the slack if a couple flood just saying if they don't share their profits with tax payers in good years why expect them to bail out in bad years. farming is a tough business but as with all business the one who takes the risks stands to both make or lose the most and it is not up to the tax payer to bail them out which I believe is what jarheadfishingfool was talking about

Maybe but I ain’t seen to many rich farmers most of the ones I know struggle to make it year to year and catch a lot of slack from ever side with regulations rules and other bs I think they’re very under appreciated considering they feed us all some people think you can just go to grocery store and buy food not considering where it came from and all the work fuel and sweat it takes to get it there and all the old ones are getting out and new ones can’t afford land and equipment to start if they do have the work ethic to make it just my opinion but I think pretty soon it’ll come to light when there’s not enough to go around

there are a lot of farmers that struggle and live on very little then there are also large cooperate farms that make plenty. many farmers make enough that they can buy big trailers or busses and spend the winter in Florida, Mexico or some other warm place. all that to say there are many farmers and ranchers who are doing quite well. and of course they should pay taxes just like everyone else. but back to the original post if you choose to lease land in a flood plain you cant complain when it floods and you better prepare for that happening around here that means jacking up houses so they are above the flood level and making critter pads so the live stock can get on land above flood level and of course having flood insurance. yes feel sorry for them when it floods but if you buy, lease or rent on a flood zone you do it knowing that it will flood sooner or later

I agree the should have crop insurance like we do here I just saying I would much rather my tax dollars going to farmers to feed us than the ignorant stuff pelosi newsome and the i***ts that run California spend it on I don’t remember a rant started when they spent millions on fancy port a potties for the homeless in San Francisco or other goofy projects they support but I’ve never heard California being accused of being really smart they are if not there highest one of the highest in taxes and running in the negative in debt from all there award winning policies how many years have they had to plan and build to catch water from the floods and snows like they’re getting now instead of it just running off and wasted in a few months they’ll be crying about the droughts and dry just like the tree hugging so called environmentalists that do nothing out there like the rest of the country does with controlled burns and other preventative measures to help with the forests so half the state doesn’t burn down when a fire starts

I rarely weigh in on a subject here in the attic because I do not like getting involved in anyone’s politics. This exceeds politics. It is a symptom of a national disease, corporate greed is k*****g our nation. In my uneducated opinion it is not a good thing when corporate farms such as described, expect us to bail them out any more than it is right for us to bail out GM or Chrysler or Ford. The farmers who struggle are not the corporate farmers. They have altered the landscape in order to build their dynasties let them learn to incorporate sustainable practices when weather goes against them. The family farmers have to.

You’re exactly right and I doubt anyone could dislike big corporate farms anymore than I do they have ruined the family dairies and shut them down that’s a whole other subject I’m saying at the end of the day we all have to eat and feed the millions of other people they’re letting just waltz into the country like they own it look at the other half of the equation how did they lease land they didn’t own who benefited from it the crooked politicians that someone put in power you get what you v**e for and I’m sure they are still in there pockets and still making money under the table from them therefore will bail them out again

You hit the nail on the head Wulffy, I've lived here for 64 years + 4 away in the Corps, if you could only see how the rivers turn into canals & irrigation ditches it's a sad thing to see over the years. JG Boswell leased / owned over 150,000 acres of land ,I don't know why Rheatown turned this into politics, issues I guess, What I'm talking about is what was lush wetlands and lake is now nothing! And unless Rheatown eats Cotton at his table he doesn't have to worry about food from this farmer that what they almost always farmed was Cotton.. Lord knows I grew up on my Grandfather's Orange Orchard Ranch, which my Uncle still runs to this day ,3 cousins that are die hard crop farmers(food)too 👍
