Caution when transposing what is safe to use in one species to another.

Hey everyone, my name is Lance O. Lollini and among other things I happen to be a veterinarian and a board certified pathologist who has spent a large portion of his life working in toxicological research. I tell you this because it establishes credibility.

So the message here is never assume that any food or chemical compound is safe for humans if it is consumed or used to treat another species. If the product does not specify that it is safe for human use then do not use it. A few examples are aspirin and chocolate are safe for us but toxic to dogs and other species. Rabies vaccine for dogs may cause rabies in a different species. Permethrin is toxic to cats when wet but not to dogs or cattle (at the right concentration). There are many many examples of this phenomenon. Dosage and frequency of exposure come into play as well so don’t assume that not observing immediate effects means that the exposure does not damage the user, look how long it took to show that cigarette smoke is carcinogenic.

I read the above missive three times..and then a fourth. As I sit here, smoking the day's last cigarette, I am moved to ask... What prompted this message ? What products are "transposed" ? I consider myself astute enough to recognize the subject matter of a post. This is one that is going to have to be explained to me. Did someone suggest we eat Powerbait ? I am confused.
Please enlighten us on what transposition occurred for your motivation, and of course, ....it's relevance to fishing. Thanks.

I, too, am confused! This subject does not appear to have any relevance to the fishing forum. Please explain yourself.

Well, I understand the post, he is just trying to help us out and enlighten us. Granted the post should not have been posted in the main menu but in the general chit chat menu. That however, should not be a Mortal Sin. I thank you for your post, Odino!

Sorry that I didn’t put the post in the right place, new to the process. It refers to the statement of if an insecticide is safe for use on a puppy it’s safe for use on humans. That was in the mosquito bite topic. However the information I provided is true.

And your point is what? I see no relevance whatsoever to fishing... Of course, as well as your argument seems to be well thought out, it appears to be way outside my experiences when catching fish.

Best Regards and Good Luck!

One would have to go to the original post about fishing and being eaten by mosquitoes. Some we all have dealt with on occasion.

Oooh, mosquitos... knew there HAD to be SOME relevance to fishing....sorta.
I promise not to wear a flea collar to keep the ticks off me... my fur isn't contiguous anyway... quite a few gaps ! LoL !
Get a headnet, buy some Picaridan, find an Avon Lady for some 'Skin so Soft', put the app "Bug Spray" on your phone to electronically Chase 'em, deet -if you have to*, ...soooo many solutions these days. Some work for everyone, some don't. Some smell great (Natrapel & Repel's lemon-eucalyptus), some... not so much. Find your bliss,...so you can get back to the reason you are exposed to those little nasty gals(supposedly only the females bite, not sure I 'bite' that theory)....fishing.
*.. before the 80's, Deet was only available in maybe 50%(might be wrong on that figure). Canada allowed 100%, so we got a buddy visiting relatives to bring some back. Curious as to why the limit, we read the FDA statement....not good at all. Not sure why the eventual reversal to allow 100% in the US, but the article stuck with me, haven't used it since. I use Natrapel with Picaridan, smells and works great (Sawyer's is not particularly pleasant-smelling to me, but gets the job done.... safely !)

Does not need to be about fishing!

Just an informational post.

Everyone has their own passion.

Hi my name is Ron Cashion I would like to say everything you have said is true. Not quite the credentials you have but , previously I worked in the pest management department at Greenleaf nursery. Lake Tenkiller across from Cherokee landing. I was a state certified chemical applicator and foreman there for several years.
I helped implementation of all the catch ponds, canals, and basins that were built on the nursery property in the late 1980s and on through the 90s.. That's a whole story of it's own. Thanks for letting me join. Ron C.

Hello Ron Cashion again.. The gentleman was trying to help us with our lives. In you have to be alive to go fishing. I live where the Caney creek starts . I see ppl that have no clue what they are putting in the IL river and Lake tenkiller.
When I tried to talk to them they also reacted like you guys. Sad for us all. Ron Cashion.
