I posted this story as a response to another message but figured it deserved its own topic here upstairs.

Recently on the NJ & NY shorelines, seemingly healthy whales continue to wash up dead - 8 of them since early December.

There has been recent offshore pre-construction work for wind turbines, but no solid correlation yet linking the dead whales to the windmills, fueling speculation by inquiring minds.

It will be interesting to see what marine biologists, scientists, environmentalists & politician$ determine as their cause of death...

“Thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for h**e’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool!”
- Captain Ahab

“Keep still, Sancho, my friend, Things associated with war, more than others, are subject to continual change. Moreover, I believe—and it’s true—that the sage Frestón—he who robbed me of my library—has changed these giants into windmills to take away the glory of my having conquered them, such is the enmity he bears me.

Does the vibration mess them up where they run into the bases of the windmills?
Have they found out what they are really dying of? I would really like to know what they are dying from.

The frequencies/soundings for pre-construction of the wind turbines confusing the whale's location orientation is a prevailing thought but is still being studied. Just seems coincidental since the whales look very healthy otherwise.

Haven't read any autopsy results yet.
Mickey's cynical view is that sadly, whoever fund$ the studies will probably determine the results that will be published.

The proper word is necropsy, not autopsy.
Autopsy is specifically reserved for humans. Necropsy is for animals.
Not getting on anyone's case here. Just wanted to let y'all know, which I'm sure y'all did.
I too am wonderin what the cause is goin to be. Hope they can determine what it is exactly and try to remedy it.

What happens to us when standing right in front of very loud speakers? Well Whales are being subjected to loud SONAR for bottom mapping and the water is a better conductor of sound than air. 15 or so years ago the Navy took a hit for using it's big sonars during exercises and hurting sea mammals.

NW corner of the Garden State, lots of nice trout streams to wade; lakes, reservoirs, ponds, sand-pits to float my canoe, 'yak & belly-boat & of course, the "BIG D", (Delaware River).

Ever get back to Red Bank smitty?

Used to SW fish with guys I worked with & friends on charters (3x/yr) out of Belmar (not too far from Red Bank), between 1982-2001. Miss the camaraderie & SW fish & experiences of 12 guys on an 80' boat. Also surf-fished at Island Beach State Park a bit.
