The exact scene that I wish was what I would see out my window from my "dream house"....still trying to acquire that "dream"...hope springs eternal !
If you look carefully, the rope on the end away from the dock goes AROUND the post before entering the water. Most likely a small anchor on the end of that line, providing tension to pull the boat away from the dock. A very smart mooring, since that "glass surface" won't always be present. Wooden boats don't much care for banging against dock. Not unlike those long fiberglass dock poles people use to protect their boats, rather than merely relying on "bumpers" or padding the dock's edge.
