It’s okay, we all have our days. Just be sure to have tight lines.

The Senior rate for a license applies at age 70 in Oregon, not 76.

Hello everyone,
I love to surf fish.
I am wondering whether to get my basic license, this year.
At 73 yrs. and as an Oregon resident for only two years,i don't Qualify for a senior or life time license, for another three years.
However, I can still get my regular license, and tags at the regular rate.
Do I correctly understand that system?
Maybe I'm wrong but, if I do pay the full rate for a license... I'll more likely spend more money on, gear, campers, boats, beach rental, dinning, and a few other things, right?
But I have been wrong before!
Just sayin'

And this guy wants OTHER FOLKS to not do drugs.....hehehe....might be "MIRROR TIME", buddy.

You DO add a certain amount of "amusing, but fairly off-the-wall & irrelevant posts" to the forum...I assume for our entertainment, thanks !

You also have to be a resident for 50 years to get it.

Thanks for the above, Jeremy....as I was aware of the discrepancy stated (5 vs. 50) to be eligible for the highly reduced in price "Oregon Pioneer" license.
(I can only hope that I live another 11 years, so I can qualify !)

I would have beaten you to the punch with the exact same photo of the regs....however, it seems that there are a few fellow-stagers (one in particular on this thread) who don't much care for my pedantic contributions. So, this time, refrained for a bit.

Edit: had a bit of a rant in this space, about being told to "leave the thread" from an earlier response to my posts. Apparently the poster thought that I was being "too harsh" or possibly too flippant ?....idk. After I pushed "send", I
went back to page one, to re-read the disparaging "go away now " post, and was both surprised, as well as pleased, to find it...... GONE !?!?

Hehehe...thanks Admin, or whomever.

Fix,
nice to meet you.
also everyone,my protest is about the fact that the funding for ramps, dams, changing rivers, and paving over the earth as it was, is coming from a general fund.not our licence fees.
fish on.

Minor correction here, it's 3 rods from the bank, not 4.

"Paving over the earth"...in Oregon ? Just WHERE do you observe THAT happening in our state, Shaddick ?
Sure, the ramps and roads leading TO our fisheries are often funded by local, county and state funds...with contributions from ODFW ADDED.
The dams and their maintenance(and sometimes their REMOVAL) are mostly state or federal $$.....with contributions from the ODFW.
"Changing rivers" ? Not sure what you are referring to, with the exception of dams or are you referring to the repair of riparian areas around a particular waterbody ?.......ODFW most CERTAINLY contributes a portion of its funds for the latter.
The hatcheries in the state are funded by our license fees. That's where a lion's share of their funds go.
Education is another large expenditure of ODFW, as are the administrative costs of running the state's licensing process, hatcheries and promotion of the resource itself. And let's not forget the slick 97-page "Sport Fishing" publication, that keeps us aware and informed of the regs for our many diverse waterbodies and the coastal fisheries, as well as good identification pages and helpful information. And then there is the enforcement of the regs(often supplementing local law enforcement funding), the state board that determines the regs, and the ODFW staff, that keeps this whole conglomerate of diverse needs, wants, and execution, humming year after year.

In other words....your rather misguided "protest" is kinda for naught, imo.
We are incredibly blessed to live in this state, & should support all of the above with our money, as well as our participation, in all that Oregon has to offer.
As has been said, "gotta pay to play"....and Lord knows, we have one of the best "playgrounds" on the planet.

Do join us on the playground....only costs less than 50 cents a day if you go full-on and get ALL the tags and endorsements....closer to about 11 cents a day (!) if you go basic.

And waiting until you are eligible for a reduced price on your license after a five-year residency, is only going to save you a measly $14 ($41>$27) anyways.
....."protest" ?.......really ?.....and who is it (outside of the few dozen on this forum....and probably not even all of them) that will even be aware of this protest, much less pat you on the back for doing it ?

Nice "meeting" you, as well, Shaddick.
And good luck out there if you have a change of mind and decide to join us licensed and informed folk !
