Well, bad news. That beam is definitely broken.
I went out back today to take some pics of the cleared roof and you can see the sag in the middle of the roof.
Oh well. It is what it is.
Goin to brace the beam up tomorrow so it will have support if it snows again.
I'm not sure how that beam can be replaced without takin the roof off.
However, I'm sure gonna try.
The last pic is yesterday's job when I started.
That's a 6 foot chain link fence, and that snow is so packed down I can walk on the top of it there and not even sink at all.ā›„šŸ˜Æ

Steve, when you put that temporary post under the cracked beam make sure the temporary post is resting on a solid surface not a sub floor. Basically you are transferring the weight from the roof to the floor which may only be 3/4" plywood.

If their is another floor below you may need to put another post under the temporary post to transfer the weight to the next floor if that is possible.

The back room use to be a deck that we made into a room.
The deck is 2x6 redwood with 3/4 inch plywood flooring over it.
It is built on 4x6 beams on 3 foot centers. Supported by pier blocks every 3 feet under it all.
Wish I would have left the 6x6 support post under the beam now.ā˜¹šŸ‘Ž

The 2x6 flooring coupled with the 3/4 plywood major is a advantage there. However, if that 5 feet of snow snapped the beam, no telling if you get another 5 foot if it would snap the 2x4. Some support under the temporary post transferred to solid ground might be a waste of time but yet a peace of mind.

I'm thinkin bout two 4x4 support posts on top of a two foot long 2x4 on the floor.

If that 2' long 2x4 crosses the beams below them than some of the weight will be distributed to the beams below. The transferred weight needs to be picked up somewhere other than the sub floor. Either the beams or the solid floor below the beams.

I put two 4x6 support posts under the cracked area. They span 19+ inches.
Hopefully that will get me through the winter and I can work on getting it fixed permanently this summer.šŸ‘

just curious what is the normal snow fall for that area? so you gave up climbing up apple trees for climbing up on snow covered roofs? you are quite the adventurous I don't even go outside any more when we get 4" of snow

Lol, 4 inches! I was stepin over the top of my 6 foot chain link fence on top of the snow Sunday. ā›„šŸ˜ÆšŸ˜„
Now that snow bank is bout 8 feet of packed snow.
I can jump from the house to the snow bank now. šŸ¤”šŸ˜Ø
The snow usually stays at bout 4 feet or less on the roof.
It usually melts down some between storms.
We had too much over a short period of time and it just got too deep and with the rain, HEAVY. šŸ˜ŖšŸ‘Ž

Well Iā€™m a little late on this one but I hope it all works out buddy.
I was in Kirkwood skiing with my sister and her family Jan 5-9. Had 10 ft of snow just prior to our trip and well over 3 ft while we were there.

Hey Bric. I know, it's been a heavy January snows.
Hopefully there won't be that much more around lake level. We still need it in the higher elevations though.

I hope the water situation there is better after this winter, at least for about 6 months lol. Iā€™m coming fishing this year especially if you guys have another meet and greet.

I'll have to see how our move is progressin to see if I'm gonna be able to go to a M&G this year.
It would be nice if we were able to put one together and have a few days up at Clear Lake again.
