Well guys, got up to Tahoe a day late.
Traffic was at a standstill on I 80 East yesterday. We tried it for bout 5 miles, took us 45 min so we turned around and went to my daughter's house in Brentwood. Only took us 45 minutes to get to her house, WOW.
Left Brentwood this mornin and got here bout 2pm.
Beautiful drive and the snow is really deep.
So much so that it cracked the cross beam in our back room.
Not sure the beam itself is cracked. It doesn't appear to be but the plaster on the outside of it is and its bowing down pretty bad.
I'll get the snow off the back roof and see if the beam goes back in place. If not, major repairs this summer.
Oh Well. Whatcha gonna do. There's tons of snow on our roof.
The rest of the house is built to handle more load than that back room so hopefully we'll be good on the rest of the house.
I took some pics of the snow load and the beam in the back room.β˜ΉπŸ‘Ž
At least the whole thing didn't collapse. πŸ‘
Gotta look on the bright side. Can't do anything about it now but shovel the roof off and hope for the best. πŸ€”πŸ™‚πŸ‘

I'll try.
Just looked out the back sliding door onto the deck and the snow is over eye level with me and I'm 5' 10". I can't see over the top unless I stand on my tiptoes. 😩

That’s a lot of snow Saw and a lot of weight. Glad you caught it before you had more problems but that’s enough. Take lots of breaks cleaning off the roof and hopefully it will spring back up. Be looking forward to seeing how you make out. Good luck buddy

Wow Saw that’s a serious job to remove that snow. Take your time and be careful!!!!

I also strongly recommend a temporary support for that cracked beam. Don’t want a catastrophic failure while you’re up there. Good luck. Slow and steady will win that race.

Tight lines

Come the thaw, you roof might start leaking. Your roof is supposed to hold, by code is 100 pds per square. It looks like maybe you passed that. I hope you can remove the snow very soon, before any more damage. Remember, we are not spring chickens, and removing snow is a lot of work. Maybe a roof rake would be a better choice of tools.

That's unreal Steve. Looks like you'll have to clear out all around the house before you attack the roof. Otherwise you won't have anywhere to drop the snow to. Be safe my friend.

The year before I bought my home, we had a total of ten feet of snow on the ground. It took down buildings that had been up for 40 years, or more. It didn't happen all at once, and some could have shoveled off the roof like your doing. The one disadvantage here is almost everyone has a 2 story with a metal roof. Last year I had 5' overnight. Lost three metal chimneys. Took a week just to get halfway caught up. I spent my morning dealing with just 4" of white stuff, that looks a bit overwhelming, I know you needed the snow, but that's a little over kill.

Be cool to have some sort of conveyor type system on roof that doesn't have steep enough of pitch to automatically make snow fall. Whenever a certain amount of weight is sensed it would move the snow off. There is automatic solar cleaning equipment makes me wonder if some company makes an auto snow remver too.
