Caught, tagged and released a 20” striped bass with a black Bomber A-16 in the Manasquan, NJ, surf tonight. One hit in two hours of casting 6 different lures is very slow fishing but I may try it again tomorrow. New moon fishing is best with black lures.

I fill out a tagging report for each fish but people who catch tagged fish don’t always report them.

That's a good idea. I'm sure alot of guys don't bother. I remember when MD had checking stations for deer harvest. Where I hunted the location was Apple Tree Inn. They'd give you a tag. Weight them n post the name of hunter Weight of deer n point count. It was part of the hunt. Get eats n a beer. Listen to the tall tails. Look at the deer that came in. It was a ritual. Now it's on the honor system 👍

How many stripers did you say you had placed tags on? I don't think most people realize that you tag these fish at your own expense. How much does it cost you per fish.

Is it mandatory? I get the idea of giving information to whomever. What is the tag for? What if someone catches same fish close or afar away..do they tag again? Document again etc?

I tagged 4,792 striped bass in NJ since 1985. The tags now cost 60 cents each.

Voluntary. The American Littoral Society runs the world’s largest private fish tagging program to learn more about fish. I wrote down the information from most of the tagged fish that I caught then released the fish with the tag intact. I put an ALS tag in a striped bass that had an RU transmitter in it. RU fish taggers caught a striped bass that I tagged.

Dad was a Stripe Bass tournament fisherman President of the Rod & Reel Club, Barrington NJ.
I remember driving up Brigantine Beach in late 60's early 70's during the season and learning how to stay out of the way and for God's sake DON'T turn on the flashlight! Six rod holders attached to the front grill of the Chevy Blazer for quick location changes as the schools of bait ran up and down the beach, just look for the birds working in the surfline Son!
