Fish ID, caught this little thing near Jupiter Inlet

Wasn't sure what it was so we released it. About 9 inches in length.
Any idea what this is?

According to my brother who lives in Melbourne his fishing buddy said Patch Reef Mutton Snapper.

That size can be caught. Inshore in either salt or fresh water

Mutton snapper.that black dot near the tail helps to separate it from some of the other snappers

With the blue lines on the head and the dark spot on the back half, it is a Mutton snapper for sure. The limit is 5 fish/day 18" or more.

It is a Grunt of which there are several varieties.
