A buddy of mine (and I) each bought a pair of the Cabela’s name brand Intensity 12x50 HD binoculars a few years ago. They were very impressive, and for about $230, not too painful on the wallet. Mine are fine, but my buddy’s pair does not do the ONE THING they are supposed to do, focus!
We were told they had a no questions asked, lifetime warranty. That was good enough for me as they were about half the price of the Vortex model we compared them to. Boom…sold!
He noticed the issue as he was deer hunting, of course!
Tom called Customer Service and was told this is a wear part, therefore NOT covered. CS told him if it was a manufacturer defect or a design flaw they would be covered. In my opinion, if a single-purpose item such as a spotting scope or set of binoculars does not perform…I believe it is certainly one or the other and Cabela’s should stand behind them. I advised him to not accept their response and to take it to the next level. Am I wrong?
NO! It's the corporate America way. Make the sale, get the numbers. Problems? Should have read the fine print. That's why when I do business with a company that is different they become my go to. I'll even pay more for the peace of mind.
That is a bugger OJ. The most important aspect of a binocular set is to do what you said...focus! Hard to believe that would be considered as a facet of design that is prone to wear out. I suppose they have to draw the line sometimes in terms of what claims to honor, but frankly it would be in their best interest to keep you happy as a customer.
Loyalty is something that I would think a business considers as important these days! With all the competition for our dollars these days, I would hope that a sporting goods supplier would do what is right and replace your friend's unit. That means future sales for them as they maintain your trust!

I agree 100%
He just sent me a picture of the warranty and it states they are covered under normal wear and tear. They had better honor that! He must’ve just talked to another unqualified person in Cust. Service.

ABSOLUTELY not John. I would definitely push them to honor the warranty. That's the only function of a pair of binoculars, to focus! Unless they were used by a hundred different people, how could they wear out?
Cabelas has changed so much. Customer service is a thing of the past. Personally, I don't deal with them much and I live 2 miles from the store.

The most important part about binoculars are to focus. Unless otherwise. Fight em on that one. Like Fred said customer service is far from perfect 👍👍
As a person that has dealt with the same kind of problem. I went to the store and had no problem getting a new pair .Don't deal with customer service over the phone. They don't care about you .

I told him to do just that, thanks!

About the only true guarantee these days is " guaranteed not to rust, bust or collect dust, but if it falls in half, you own both peices!"

I had warranty issues with Cabela’s around 13 years ago. For a few year’s I bought their waterproof breathable chest waders for duck hunting and they came with the Cabela’s warranty that if they leaked Cabela’s would replace them no questions asked. I would get at the most 1-1/2 seasons out of the waders and they would leak. They honored their warranty every time until they were bought out then they said they had changed the warranty. They honored the last pair I bought but not after a year when they began leaking.
I do my best to not buy from those big box sporting goods stores anymore.
Sorry to hear about your binoculars. My wife bought me some Nikon binoculars 18 years ago. When I had an adjustment problem last year I sent them to Nikon in California. They repaired them for nothing. I paid shipping there, they paid shipping back
😎👍

I agree; go to the store.
I have done that in the past and never had a problem. Good luck!

You Understand completely. The rip off part is by a retailer that has gotten so many people to wear their name everywhere and make people think they are something they are not. It shouldn't matter who bought who. The optic Manufacturer is who does the warranty work or replaces things anyway so BPS and Cabelas is simply proving they do not care about you...just your money.
