Caverns in Texas

Robert J Samples Loc: Round Rock, Texas

Ordinarily, I refrain from promoting a product, a business, or a magazine in any form, but in this case, I am breaking my own rule. The Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine is worth the money and is chocker block full of interesting facts and places to visit. And in this case caverns in our state. There are 3,000 caverns in Texas, and many are open for visitors! I suspect there are more that are on private property and their presence is kept secret. My sister and husband regularly went spelunking before they had children.
So, if you subscribed to this magazine, it would tell you the top 10 best caves to visit. Not only that but virtually the top 10 places for just about everything. Now, here is a new word, at least for me.
KARST: A landscape, typically limestone, characterized by sinkholes, springs and caves, created as groundwater dissolves soluble rock.
Since Texas is both a big state and a very friendly state with neighbors on three sides and a country to the south, Mexico, it may tickle your wanderlust to come and visit. I know that caves always cause a lot of interest. Most of you have read the story of Tom Sawyer, where he and Becky Thatcher go into a cave near their home and have a lot of adventures. Yes, Missouri has even more caves, but have they invited you to come and explore them?
You could write and request information or subscribe, but why waste all that time, just call 800-937-9393 to inquire about a subscription if you are interested.
There are always fishing stories, both in the lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. Our coastline isn’t as long as is California’s, but it is loaded with places to explore and fish! Just Sayin…RJS
