Beautiful shot BC. I'd love to fish a stump field like that. Thanks for the picture.

Fred,Toledo bend has boat lanes cut in it for running . When I’m gonna go into a cove or flat area, I always idle in with the motor trimmed to where the prop is almost out of the water. Every cove. Even at full pool. Level is 4’ low today. So some of what you are seeing in that photo is usually right below the surface . Better to go slow than go home.....My 2cents....

We don't really have anything like that up here Chuck. We have flooded timber but they are way below the surface. I've seen guys on fishing shows in places like that, and they usually go in on the trolling motor, with the big motor tilted out of the water. Definitely better safe than sorry.

Yeah Fred. I mainly fish Rayburn and t- bend . Also naconiche and sometimes fork . All those lakes have transom ripping stump fields. I’m always paying attention , and luckily I have never hit anything while running . Now I have done the “ bump and roll “ when I was idling in or on the trolling motor...lol.... I remember the first time I fished fork , I hired a guide. We were in his boat running about 50 , lake was kinda rough . I looked down to my left and there was a big angle - cut stump / tree , at least 18” diameter right next to the boat. We were in 10ft / water. I could have reached down and touched it. He never saw it , he wasn’t wearing a jacket ( I was ) , and didn’t have his kill switch attached . Later on , at the end of the day , I said something about the tree . He said “ hmm. how did that get there ? I run that way all the time “ . I also said something about not using his kill switch , and he was silent. Strange thing was , he claimed to be a “ safe boating instructor “ , had a patch on his shirt to that effect......usually when I have used a guide , I always watch them to see if they know what they are doing , and if they do their job , I usually tip them about 15% of their original fee. Needless to say, even though this guy did put me one a few fish at fork ( nothing major ) , no tip for him. Lol

Yeah Fred. I mainly fish Rayburn and t- bend . Als... (show quote)

That's more dangerous than going in blind Chuck. As you said, a professional guide should be setting an example of safe behavior, and a "Safe boating instructor " to boot. If I ever get to check out a place with those conditions, you can bet I'll be idling around, and studying a chart.
