40ยฐat the ramp @9:40 am, breeze blowing around 8 mph. I decided to start on the leeward side of the point where the ramp is. Threw a Fluke, a watermelon Dinger, and a couple different Ned Rigs, with zero bites. After losing the 3rd Ned Rig in the rocky bottom, I switched to a Green Pumpkin Dinger. I had 2 Smallies follow it to the bank but they wouldn't bite. After about 30 minutes, I got a decent bite, and set the hook. It wasn't pulling like a Smallmouth but it did break the surface 2x. I couldn't get a good look until I got it to the bank. A 3lb Seeforellen Brown Trout! The biggest Trout I've caught since I was 12 yrs old. I didn't have my cooler so C.P. R. and back in the water she went. As the wind picked up I worked my way down old Rt..8 for about half a mile, with no more action. The wind was about 12-15 by noon so I called it. I never expected to catch a Trout on a 5" Dinger, but you never know.

Beautiful fish Fred! They put up a good fight. How long would you say he was?

Thanks Mark. I'd say at least 20" long, but pretty skinny for that length. Just hit 3lbs.

Spectacular brown trout there Fredfish! As you mentioned..."what a surprise!" Pretty cool to know that the fishery is so diverse in that lake!

Thanks Yaker. Yeah they stock the Trout but usually much smaller fish than that. It's a natural Smallmouth lake, with some Largemouth as well. It's originally a river starting in Massachusetts. They dammed it up for flood control, and the depth varies a lot depending on precipitation, and time of year. It's probably around 70% of capacity now.

Nice looking fish Fred and Iโ€™m just as surprised as you that you caught it. Thatโ€™s not what I consider normal trout bait. Have a great thanksgiving bud

I would have loved to take you to the Big Hole River for the brown spawn in October. You would have loved it.

Thanks Butch. Yeah,I didn't think anything I was gonna throw would attract ANY Trout, let alone a 3 pounder. That's why I didn't bring a cooler. SURPRIZE!

Sounds like fun Wulffy. I never was much of a Trout fisherman. Occasionally I'll troll for them if the Bass fishing is slow, and I take my Ultralights to a local stocked pond on opening day.

Two and 3 pounders were a norm. Big browns and fast currents were a real challenge.
