I have just come to the realization of what my problem really is, and this describes both my problem and what happens when one had it.

Ménière disease is a disorder of the inner ear that affects balance and hearing. This condition is characterized by sudden episodes of extreme dizziness (vertigo), a roaring sound in the ears (tinnitus), a feeling of pressure or fullness in the ears, and fluctuations in hearing. Episodes are often associated with nausea and vomiting, and they can severely disrupt activities of daily living.

The episodes associated with Ménière disease generally last several hours. Studies suggest that episodes can be triggered by stress, tiredness (fatigue), emotional upset, illness, and dietary factors. I personally don’t feel tired, nor any emotional problems, and as far as I can tell nothing else but this ear problem, which contributes to me falling at unexpected times.

I have all the symptoms, ringing and popping in my ears, feeling like I have water in my ears, and an itching in both ears. I should have realized this much sooner but had not really given it much thought. I also cannot hear very well. I am always asking my wife to repeat what she has just said, because I cannot hear well.

I actually do not think I am at death’s door, but who knows? Sargent Major Death can come at any time, place his hand on my shoulder, and whisper in my ear, “Its time to go.” You cannot deny, refute, or delay. It is actually not from him, but a much higher power, in fact the highest power of all, directly from the Creator God! You must obey.

Now, when he places his hand on your shoulder you may look back and think about, or wish you could make one more cast, do one more deal, or drill one more well, but no, there isn’t any time left. I expect I will be glad my children have turned out well! Just Sayin…RJ

Good to hear you may have the problem figured out. Consider some hearing aids if it’s feasible. My grandmother who passed from Alzheimer’s/dimentia had her disease progress much faster than it should have because she refused to keep her hearing aids my dad had got her. She said they were too expensive. That was ridiculous she was worth more than all the money in the world. And so are you!!

Just sayin…

I was the one who figured it out. Based on my medical training to be a pharmaceutical salesman back in the 1960s. Now I just have to get one of these young boys or girls to come up with a satisfactory cure. Next, will be hearing aids. Tomorrow is my 88th birthday, if I can make it this far, perhaps I can reach 98!

Glad you figured it out. We all hope you will reach 98 maybe even more. When the time comes you will be missed by a lot of people you haven't even met. Good luck Robert.

RJS,

Happy that you've come up with a diagnosis, hopefully they can come up with a treatment.

Looking forward to your sticking around until you're at LEAST 98!

I had never heard of your diagnosis, but I was going to PM you about getting tested for Vertigo. My Ex FIL suffers with occasional bouts of it and he is about your age. Get a hearing test, see an ENT (Ear, Nose + Throat) Specialist…whatever it takes!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr. Samples!!! Glad you diagnosed your condition so you can look for a cure. Good to know you feel prepared to go when called, but a lot of us are hoping it's in the distant future. We are hoping to hear a lot more stories about your life and adventures. I think 100 is the new 70. They call it "inflation"!

I have tinnitus every waking hour and frequent bouts with vertigo.
I've found that taking seasick pills like bromine or dramamine stops the
vertigo. Expensive hearing aids have not helped my ringing ears.

Major: Well, it is questionable that I qualigy! I was only on active duty for 6 months, and rest reserves. I have always understood this wasn't enough to qualify for VA benefits.

Lately, a friend and vet told me that the V.A. was accepting vets with my service time? Just Sayin...RJS
