Hey Craig. Could you please hit Quote Reply before you type a response. That way we know who you're talking to. Thanks. π
Having been the Editor of Western Outdoor News in NorCal for 36 years, I've been to most every body of water in the state, and here's some notes for you: There are almost as many "exceptions" to the state fishing regulations as there are streams and lakes in California. For instance, did you know that any and all streams and rivers below Hwy. 49 in the foothills are open to trout fishing year round? And as far as the Truckee River, There are different regulations for the river above and below the outflow from Boca Reservoir where it enters the Truckee. Part of the river is open year round, part closes with trout stream dates, part is any tackle or bait, and other parts are barbless only. All of these exceptions can be found on the Cal. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife website, but might take some digging to find them. In the Eastern Sierra, well-known for it's great "Trout opener" in the spring, you can fish the Owens River for most of it's length year round. California has the most voluminous and difficult to decipher fishing regulations in the country, and the wardens LOVE IT.

First time fishing Lake Pyramid. This fish was gently retrieved and kept in the water until my son took the picture. Barbless hook, but I canβt recall the pattern. Fishing 6 weight sinking line with a strike indicator. You have to be gentle with the big ones as you can cause nerve damage and they will not be able to swallow. This fish swam away with vigor.
High quality fish and release!!!

Thank you! I appreciate the time you have taken to provide you knowledge of waterway access to fishermen like myself.
Mike.
The rules and season depends on where on the Truckee.
See below for details (from the 21-22 regs)...
Good idea to detail it, good job!!! An interesting thing to do, if you haven't ever done it, is stand on the bridge over the Truckee River where it comes out of Lake Tahoe and look down! There are some of the BIGGEST trout you have ever seen in your life there, since there is no fishing and hasn't been for many decades. It's enough to drive you crazy, but gives you a good idea of how trout can grow when not overpressured.

Yeah, I love "Fanny Bridge. "
I was not tryin to TELL anyone that the season WAS closed. Just to CHECK and make SURE it was open. I truly hope it is and they have a wonderful time and catch lots of fish. Sorry if I was misunderstood. π
