Even here on the Attic section, it would be nice if we could try to remain civil to one another, and not let our differences degenerate into personal attacks and disparaging comments. Thats just uncool. Let's try to keep it as polite as possible, please. Those of us who have been around here for a while have witnessed some battles that resulted in broken friendships and folks being tossed off the Digest. Really no need for it. Just Thinkin'.

Everyone ! That includes me as well, I'm not perfect ( yet ) . I was "prompted" to post this because I love this place, and enjoy & respect the diversity of ideas and opinions of all. On the other hand, I absolutely DETEST personal insults from or to anyone here even if I slip up and do it myself. I will make an exception in this case, and ask you not to be confrontational because I merely requested civility. What value could that possibly have ? I hope that addresses your concerns. S R As far as I am concerned, it's all about the presentation. No one particular subject or response is what everyone desires, but when we get going on a discussion, and the insults an innuendos start to fly, then we're going to have friction. Why should we do that ? It accomplishes nothing that will be useful to solidifying our respective positions, it only creates too hostile an environment for any points of agreement to be reached. I realize we're not diplomats, we're anglers. Maybe if we focus a bit on that common ground, we'll play together better in the Digest's sandbox.

Nutz, one of the most difficult things to do, in my opinion, is to successfully communicate through the written word because what is said is always filtered through the mindset of the reader. We don’t have voice tones or facial expressions to help explain what is being said so I believe your request for civility and respect between all of us is not only appropriate but needful.

Perfectly said maxx. I know darn well that I have been on that open mouth and insert foot list of saying things I can not take back and many times bite my tongue as well. That being human factor creeps up on us all at times.

Sinker mentioned about not being welcomed if one doesn't go with the flow is just wrong. Difference of opinion is one thing, degrading another's view is a different ballpark. If one has to resort to name calling and put downs we should just ride the bench in the dugout until the inning is over.

Just like a sub par meal that is placed in front of us at a restaurant. Presentation makes the difference !!!!!!

So true, Nutz. Different opinions are just that, different opinions.
The problem has been when a difference of opinion degrades to attacking the person rather than the topic. Some have joined conversations with the intent of stirring the pot to trigger people rather than adding to the topic or they are “trolling” just to get a rise out of others to just sow animosity or bully others.
Totally unnecessary.
