Caught my personal best crappie (so far) this morning at the lower lake below Sardis Dam, Mississippi.
1.8 pounder and caught 4 more of his friends, using chartreuse beetle spin.
Good fishing to all…..
That’s one beautiful fish 🐠 you have there and great tasting

Love those Johnson beetle spins Jbn. They’re killer on the craps.

Nice crappie fillets coming!
Until I got on this forum, I thought a decent crappie was "hand-sized". Y'all keep showing us pics of crappie that are the size of the bass others are exhibiting.
Having eaten both in my youth, and most definitely tasting the difference ...I am SO jealous !
My ex-father-in-law and I used to go "catch a bunch" (like 30-40?) and my MIL would dip the filets in cornbread batter, deep fry 'em, and we'd eat 'em like you'd eat chicken McNuggets. If we had been catching your size, we could have cut that harvest to a dozen to have the same amount of tasty meat.
The one in the picture is literally 3x the size of our "really good ones"....... thanks for sharing, and giving me the impetus to search out some crappie water and go get some ! Nice fish !

Until I got on this forum, I thought a decent crap... (
show quote)
Living on a Texas lake fishing from my back yard here in the overgrowth cove, I thought crappy under 2 lb was getting small, but they weren't! but it wasn't uncommon for us to catch crappie three pounds pushing near 4 lb and it don't take many to fill a nice size fish basket, fish just get bigger down here in the south the lake that I lived on Lake Arrowhead in north Texas, had a limit of 16 inches and over to keep them, this culling allowed the crappie to get really big but there are other waters that have abundantly good Crappie as some of my other Southern Brothers that fish in these Waters will tell you.
