I live above Sonora California, in a small community of Long Barn. Long Barn is in Tuolumne County and the Stanislaus National Forest, at 6,000 feet elevation. There are unlimited streams, rivers, and lakes for fishing. I like to fish for trout mostly. I'm still learning the area and surching for good fishing! I have 4x4 Jeep and don't mind some hiking. Any information you my have would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Bob

Hey Bob, welcome to the stage.
I don't know that area but it sounds a lot like what I fish when I'm in Tahoe.
Will look forward to some posts and pics from you in the future. Tight lines brother.

Just head up 108, you have Beardsley Lake and Pinecrest Lake ( good trout fishing boat or bank) plus you have the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River at Strawberry, Clarks Fork, Kennedy Meadows Fish and Wildlife plant all those waters. You are in the middle of trout country. Then head off the hill and you have bass, crappie, catfish, carp in Lake Don Pedro, McClure, Melones, McSwain all within a hour to hour and a half from your drive way.

Hi Bob, my friend and I would often fish the after dam area of the Dardenell. It was tricky to get to. A one lane logging road that led down to the dam. I can no longer hike down or up a mountain for that matter. If you can find someone local who knows that area and give you directions you would have a great experience. It would be better to have a companion than to go solo. It’s a bit of a climb in and out. Some of the best trout fishing I’ve experienced. Good luck and like the rest of us we want to see pics! Thanks Ranger, it’s been a long time since I was able to fish that area or any area. Kennedy Meadows and Clark Fork area were fun too. My memory was refreshed by your reply. Thanks, it’s hell to get old. All my joints are paying the price for my times on the football and baseball fields. Lol 😂 I miss fishing so much. Souz3

I am right behind you, never thought I would have to sit down to put socks and boots on. My dad live to be 90 and said you have to be a tough S.O.B. to get old. Glad I brought back some good memories for you.

Fished and camped Kennedy meadows many times with my two boys years ago. We always caught fish and had some good times there. When you go farther up there is a mountain pass with a small stream that follows it,I think it was highway 108? We were there one early spring when the highway reopening from winter thaw and caught some nice brookies ,there was still snow on the ground along the stream.

Have you fished the the
Stream that is bt Strawberry 🍓 I park off 108 and fish down stream down very well use baby night crawlers and Fireball Samon eggs
And I have fished the Stanislaus river off 108 I forget the name of the road you take and you switch back down the mountain ⛰️ there is a nice camp ground when you get there and this section of the river is barrbless 17 inch size limit and your only aloud 2 fish. The ponds are beautiful and big you will do some rock jumping but I have done very well there are some trophy 🏆 Rainbows and Browns in there.
But once the sun gets on the water the big fish shut down.
Good luck
Andy

Hi Andy,
Thank you for that good information! I have not fished below strawberry and 108. I have fished from Pinecrest Dam down to Strawberry but that's it. I will have to go give that a try. Thanks again for the info.

I'll find the road you turn on off 108 it's before or just before where you are at
I belive its Frazier flats the road is before the gas station on the left hand side you turn left off108 coming up from Modesto.
Here are the Dir. Turn on Spings gap road off 108 then forest rd. 4no1
4N88 , 4N85 you are going to switch back down the mountain ⛰️ to the river there is a camp ground there fish up river on the on the right hand side facing the river I wouldn't take a long rod and don't take a fishing box!! Take your fishing vest or buy one and a good pair of boots 1st time I went I took my Hip waders !! At the end of the end of the morning my feet were killing me. Good pair of water proof boots.
I would take a trail run during the day to find it and the the next time be on the water just before day light !!
Last time I went before my rebuilt knee surgery on both my knees I hooked up with a good fish and he wrap me on a rock 🪨 and he headed towards the rocks he or she knew the game.
You'll fall in love with the place. The pools are big and deep !!
Good luck
Send me a personal if any ??
Or you ##
That's your choice.
Use to deer hunt where you are at.

Hi Souz3,
Thanks for the info! I know where you're talking about! I was there once in 1981. It's been on my mind, and you have motivated be to go check it out!
I saw on a forestry map, there is a forestry road that goes from Lake Berryessa to
Dardenell. I want to do that some day and fish in the river along the way. However, as you have suggested, I need to find someone to go with me! Are you interested?
Thanks again for the information!
Bob
