Welcome to the Stage Dana. I use a duo lock snap on all my rods. It makes it easy to change lures or rigs, but doesn't change the action of any lures. You still have to tie them on initially, and occasionally retie if your leader gets damaged, but it cuts the tieing to a minimum, when fishing.
Either something like that, or a headband magnifier to take with you. Good luck and Tight Lines.

I use the Palomar knot then like Fred use a snap. The Palomar is easy to tie and then the snap makes it easy to change hooks and rigs.
By the way welcome fellow Hoosier!
