I am an avid Muskie fisherman. I have about 14,000 casts and should have caught one by now, but unfortunately have not! I am planning to fish Leesville Lake July 8 with my son. My son has only about 6,000 casts and has caught 2!
Does anyone have advice for Muskie?

I have fished for them with pricey guides, and have never caught one, I quit wasting my time and hard earned money. My advice then, pakmeg, is for you to do the same, but I know that won't happen, for a while, anyway.
I don’t fish for them but have caught 2 over the years while fishing for bass. The biggest was 35 and the other was 31. Caught them both on tube baits
Use really big plugs and work them fast unless the water is hot--then slow down.

A large red and white daredevil. No guarantees but works well for me.
Ahh Leesville, she's a great muskie lake! I've fished it all my life. You just got to serve your time man. This time of year I cast the weedbeds(don't be afraid to throw on a big ole buzzbait), and when I'm feeling my age and need a break, troll the depths. Haha! Good luck!
I've had about 48 into m boat the past 21 years. Occasionally 3 in one day and then 17 days between fish.
Fishermen brag about the best lure. That is often the result of being lucky or persistent enough to fortunately be fishing during the bite. When the bite is on, almost anything works. That fisherman then thinks he has found the primo lure. I have had them swim right under my boat and grab a spoon dangling almost above water on the opposite side of the boat during a hot bite. Had two others the same hour. Use lunar tables, fish weedbeds around 4 to 15 feet of water, don't miss sundown periods, etc. Watch for fish movement--swirls on top of the water, passing under your boat; for indications of feeding activity. The surefire way to catch a good bite is to be fishing all day and intercept it. The reward is worth the time and effort you put into it.
Spend some time at West Branch it is a great Musky fishery.

My son caught one there. Boat rental $230/day
That’s one reason we are trying Leesville!
We must be related. I fish for them at least once a week. I’m now on my 2nd week of camping on hot prime muskie waters. Having a blast but none to speak of. I just need more time on this river.
Just this morning I anchored in a cove at 20ft out of the current. While casting I had 2 huge marks on my sonar and directly under my little bass boat in 5-6fow. I was tossing a super shad rap in golden shiner, the big one.
Two things in my muskie-less experience I know for sure:
-Muskies break all the rules.
-more muskie seem to be caught by accident than on purpose. And they all say it was on 8lb test🤣
THAT’S why I haven’t caught one! I’m using 12 pound!!
