Hey guys! I haven't been fishing in a long time. I'm going to the Ruby River reservoir in Montana the 1st of Feb. for my first time Ice fishing. I know I need whiskey, but what else do they bite on?? haha I'll have pics I hope. Pike is what's for dinner.

Hey Dman, there's lots of places closer to Sacramento than Montana to ice fish. Just Sayin.
Like 2 hours away.

Good luck Dman and welcome. Lots of good ice fishing in Montana. Can’t wait to see the pictures. I’m not a pike fisherman but I know Montana has their share of northern pike. You’ll have a blast.

Sounds like Ruby Reservoir is a trout fishery. Night crawlers and power bait or marshmallows about 4 to 6 feet under the ice should do the trick. If not dribble a little whiskey down the hole. That makes them look😂

Thanks. We are going to Mary Ronan and Flathead too. My friend lives there and he said "pike" so I'm just gettin' outta California for two weeks and throwin' hooks in water with the guys. Wahooo!!!

D.... forget about ice fishing. Go stay with your buddies for two weeks in August and fish Flathead Lake for Lake Trout. You will catch 5 to 30 lb fish all day long. One week absolutely wore me out on that lake. Best fishing ever in my whole life!

Suckers, suspended horizontally on a Quick Strike Sucker rig below a tip up. One of the trebles through the lip and the other through the back, behind the dorsal fin.

Well crap, Not enough Ice to go out on and too much Ice to cast pass. Maybe next time. Monatna is beautiful this time of year. We landed in a blizzard and the first two days were 2 and 4 degrees.
