Croz Loc: Crystal River, Florida

Hi I'm one of those pesky snowbirds here from Nov.1 to May 1. I'm a 74yr.old retired electrician. Bought a conventional hull, Grumman 16', center console with a 60horse. Now I hope to learn to fish in the area. I live near the Ozello trail. Always looking for someone to show me the ropes and the rocks! Want to fish and kill time? I'm ready to learn.

Always go to bait shops and marinas. Friendly folks and glad to help get you started. If you want, hire a guide and then you will know how and where to fish from then on.

Make sure you have a working GPS before you go out into the gulf. It is very easy to lose your way. Enter a #1 waypoint when you launch and that will be your go home number

Croz: First, Welcome to the Forum. You have come to the right place. The Forum has more than 54,000 members and there is a lot of experience, wisdom, and yes a ration of B.S.

The prior posts have offered good advice. If you want to get up to speed fast, the cost is greater, but faster to hire a competent guide. Listen and take notes. Ask a lot of questions because they have the latest information, being on the water every day and helping others catch fish. The cost is the same, but if you do it yourself it takes two to three times longer~! Just Sayin...RJS

Hi Croz,. I'm a snowbird too. We live in old Homosassa. Been learning the area for 2 winters. Ozello is tough! No problem for me finding the rocks. Fish is another story though. Email me and maybe we can get out. I have a boat too. (personal info removed)
