Hello John: Yes, the fish will be biting there. I don't know of any fish that go on a hunger strike. You just have to fish where they are when they decided to dine! I suspect you will be able to get into some Red drum during your trip. Just Sayin...RJS

From what I read here and been told by friends, the Jetties are producing a mixed bag as usual, sheepies are found near any structure like piers, docks and sea walls. Pampino are being caught in the first and second trough out from beach north of the jetty drifting shrimp. After Feb. 15th I will report my catches.

I fished the South jetty in Venice yesterday. I caught several good size Whiting and a 21” Gafftopsail catfish, my PB. In all I caught four whiting and at least two dozen catfish.

Hi Buddy, grab a map of the area south of Sarasota if looking to do some fresh water fishing. There are a number of small lakes and canals. A good number of the lakes are private unfortunately so no fishing or need to get permission. There are some however that can be fished off the shore and hold a good population of LM bass. Rubber worms or weedless frogs to beat the Lilly pads work well. Good luck.

That was an impressive number of catfish and a large sail cat. I skinned a bunch last year and fried them like I have always done with channel cats. They were pretty much the same. Where you fishing from the north Jetty in the cut or channel? I think you posted you normally used a bobber and drifted pieces of shrimp, correct? Good luck with your back operation.

I prefer to fish the south jetty. I’ve always had better luck there. Usually I take two dozen live shrimp out with me. I’ll try some with a bobber and some on the bottom with either a knocker rig or a fish finder rip. The majority of the fish I caught the other day was on a fish finder rig.
