And you know whereof you speak. As I recall, Corvallis had 8” of snow Christmas night. We were driving there from the Portland airport to visit son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters in the wee hours of December 26. The last 30 miles took forever. Most of the rest of our family is somewhere in the path of this latest storm. Thanks for your prayers and bringing to our attention.

Beware the silver thaw! The most indelible memory of my time in Portland.

Absolutely. I have experienced it few times as well as when going up in woods for Xmas trees 4x4 with lockers and deflated tires etc. spooky. It’s pretty much like freezing rain with bunch of ice and snow including water on top sometimes that becomes about the worst conditions as far as traction.

I’ve seen Portland, completely, shut down with 1/2” of snow. They don’t savvy winter driving there and then they spray mag chloride on top of the thin ice and it makes a slimy mess. Not a lot of winter time knowledge going on it Oregon.

Yeah Mother Nature rules Everywhere. Roads get shut down in many states.

I noticed a good driver there in Wyoming avoided an accident and the road wasn’t even shut down. Watching aheadπŸ‘

Not so smart people try to pass everyone regardless of conditions. Lose control. Need rescue by same guy that nearly dies. If someone drove better and had proper lookout no one would need rescue / towing. Trooper probably cited for unsafe operation due to conditions. Look at the pavement. Not even 1/4”. Bad drivers everywhere.

The trooper did not have his lights on, might have changed the situation.

Maybe. Conditions are conditions. When you check this one out more there was already an accident in front of him. I have wondered if he had yellow on behind car. Look how the truck was driving. In other lane going a lot slower. When it’s snowy wet or icy it’s always wrong to be driving like the van was. Here if vehicle is on shoulder or off it you are to go 5 mph below speed limit and change lanes like the truck had. No lights no nothing. For ANY car or anyone. It’s a good law but as usual there are people just like Mario VANdretti even on snow ice or combo. The worst are the ones that think I can drive better than everyone else attitude. Many very good drivers wreck.
