I always said if the bass are that leary of the line how come they don't see these massive hooks hanging from there next meal ?Food for thought and I'm with you 100 percent on with you 100% on this issue Chuck🎣😀👍

I share that opinion. I don’t have any trout around. Don’t know about catching them. I never use a leader. If something is going to bite a big spinner then why worry about the line. I make sure I have just one good knot. To each his own. Just the way I fish.

Trout are definitely more aware of what theyre eating and they actually can see line and things more I think Been fishing with a partner same setup same bait only difference was line diameter the lighter line caught more fish in the same area

You're 100%correct Chuck, with one disclaimer. The reason they'll attack an Alabama rig, is it represents a school of fish. The opportunity of a LARGE meal makes them throw caution to the wind. , versus a suspicious looking tidbit. MPO.

Yeah Mr. Fred. Especially big fish. They are lazy and really don’t want to work very hard to eat. So, if it’s pea brain says “ eat it “ , they try to....I’m supposed to make a Rayburn trip mid March ( full moon ) for 3 days. Gonna try to fish one day deep and use my umbrella rig . Hope the weather is good. Booked 2 cabins at Jackson hill marina. They don’t refund if weather is bad....Lol

Sounds like a great trip Chuck. Good luck, and be sure and let us know how you do, especially with the A-rig. Hopefully you'll have great spring weather. Are you going to night fish the moon?

Fud...Fun.... I know what you mean. I met fell in love with and married a woman in Austin, TX. Brought her back to Cali and she turned out to be the biggest BI@#% I've ever met. Texas sure lived up to its reputation on that one!

I was stationed at Carswell A.F.B from 1986 to 1991. I got my line wet everyday of the week. Excellent fishing pretty much everywhere. They have a program in place where if you elect to participate, they take , and I could be wrong on the weight, but I think it’s anything over 14 ponds, and they milk the eggs out of her, harvest them. If I remember right, they keep the bass for a year. Somewhere around 1987 a fishing guide caught the Texas state record on Lake Fork, he had a client on the boat at the time. It is a state operated program. In return for the use of your big bass, the give you a mounted replica of the fish. When he caught the bass, he also was hooked up with a ton of free fishing gear. That’s to the best of my recollection. If I had a place to move to just to go fishing it would be the Ft. Worth area. I used to fish Lake Worth almost every day, being it was located on the edge of the base. I would wade fish the lower south part of the lake by the damn a lot. I caught a 10 pond, 7 once bass on a 7 weight fly rod close to the reeds. Took me a good 15 minutes fighting it, stripping my line whenever it felt like it. I screamed so loud when I got a hand on it. Tippet size was 6 pms. Talk about lucky.
Yup, Bass are big as hell in Texas. They don’t call them linkers for nothing.
