Only hear say. But Apache Pier is most talked about. Go talk to some fishermen on the Pier. There are quit a few from up there. Hope some will come along soon or in the morning. Gordon

Welcome jflex. Lots of good people from all over on this sight. Someone with the info you’re looking for will most likely be along, probably in the morning.

Thanks Windtalker, I visited the Garden City Pier. Met a few knowledgable fishermen that gave me some good advise to get started. Found that this pier is only open Fri-Sun until March. I also checked out the Myrtle Beach State Park Pier. That looks interesting as well. Over 65 can get a annual pass for only $50.

I surf fish in northeast Florida. Here are my outfits. A Daiwa BG 4000 on an Ugly Stik Big water 12' rod. A Daiwa BG 5000 on an Okuma Rockaway 12' rod. A Penn Spinfisher V 4500 on an Ugly Stik Big water 10' rod. I also use a 6'6" Ugly Stik GX2 medium heavy with an old Shimano 4000 reel. They all have 20 pound Power Pro braid. I would not recommend the Ugly Stik Big Water rods. They are very heavy and are about the same price as the Okuma Longitude the next cheaper rod to the Rockaway. The Okuma is very light and the Ugly Stik is very heavy. Penn reels are great but have become more expensive than I'm willing to spend since they came out with the Spinfisher VI. Penn Spinfishers are sealed better than the BG but if you keep your reels out of the water is shouldn't matter. I rinse my rods and reels after each trip and oil the line roller and both ends of the bail pivot points after each trip. Each of the true surf outfits cost about $200.
Check out the surf fishing info on my website. I talk about reading the surf and some more on tackle.

Thanks for the tips Jack. I have two 7 ft medium rods for pier fishing with a 6000 Kastking and 4000 Abu Garcia. I'm thinking of getting a 12 ft'er and two 10's for surf. Your insight is very helpful in my decision making. Will check out your site. Thanks, Jerry
