Hi there i just move to the Redding ca area and would like some direction as to where to fish. Besides lake shasta are there any ponds or little man made lakes around that are fish friendly. And last i love cat fishing and are there any nice areas to target catfish? Please and thank you
Pit Arm of Shasta Lake is good for Catfish? Most ponds in the area that hold big cats are all private and you need to know someone to fish them. Whiskeytown is good for bass and Kokanee. The river is excellent for large Rainbows and the occasional Brown and below Red Bluff Stripers.
Comanche Trout pond can be very productive when they plant. My grandson (5 yr old) caught 2-3 pound trout last year.

You forgot to mention American Shad below Red Bluff.
River fishing for cats is limited. I used to catch all the channel cats I wanted from a small boat on the Sacramento River near the bank, strait across from the confluence of the American River. Just a side note: I never got a bite during daylight hours. I never tried for cats upriver from there. My bait of choice was cut herring. Most fish were between a pound and two pounds. For larger cats I have to back Fishing Fool's recommendation of the Pit river arm. I had the best luck with locally purchased minnows. The minnows also produced some nice bass

You're absolutely right, not until late April or May though, Some large sturgeon closer to Chico.
If you like to trout fish try Eagle Lake nice sized and tis open to December 31 . Good luck!
Someone told me last week that Eagle is open until February this year!!!
I have not heard or read that but there is more than one Eagle Lake in California.
the one in Susanville
One of my fishing buddies who fishes it a lot, told me last week about being open until Feb
Where is the other one besides in Susanvile?
There is one off hwy 80 in the Donner area in Eldorado County and there is an Eagle Lakes around the Clear Lake area.
