Easy way to keep mussels on the hook without tying it.

• To start, it's most important to shell the mussel whole as best you can. Holding the mussel in your palm with the top (grass) facing up and wider part towards your fingers, insert the tip of your knife just beyond the grass strands protruding from the mussel with the blade facing the wider end. Push the blade towards wider end to cut through the muscle that holds the shell closed at the bottom of the wider end. That will allow you to easily open the mussel. Do not pull the shell apart. Carefully scrape the mussel out of the shell without separating it. Holding mussel up by the grass you should see a "tip" protruding just under the grass. Place your hook down into the base of that tip and all the way through the mussel; bring your hook back up behind and through the thickest part of the grass which is what will “lock” the mussel to the hook. Now place excess mussel on the hook. It sounds very tedious but it's really very simple. Hope this works for you, be blessed. Any questions please hit me up.
