Treats are great. We train our agility dog and other dogs with treats, specifically the "Click and Treat" method. There's a lot of good information on the web and YouTube about that method. One thing I would say is to try to change the dog's attitude (obvious) instead of correcting the growling. A dog's growl is their way of saying, "I'm about to bite you." If you punish the growl instead of changing the attitude you can very easily create a dog that bites without warning. That's not a good thing. Just my .02 cents worth.

Well, one thing I wouldn't do, Ben, and that's trying a new wife, that would be too expensive. You would be sleeping with the dog in your truck.

I was thinking about rubbing pork chops on her . That might work

Thanks guys. For the advice
He’s a good boy and for most part is cool with my wife. Just some personal space issues we haven’t figured out yet.
He does NOT like her kissing me.
Which we do on occasion.
I think he might be confusing her with my ex wives. They needed bit. Wish ida had him 30 years ago
Might be worth a try to pull up in front of their house and unleash the devil dog . Little pay back and let him have his fun.
Win win

Yea she’s got a few miles on her. Maintenance costs getting up there .
Might be time to trade her in for a newer model.

Sometimes the ones that run the longest are the best. Maintenance always comes into play πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘

NO WAY MAN ! You think retrainin a dog is tough. HA! I'm too old and don't have the time or desire to train a new wife. I'll just stick with the one I have.

You come to close to cleaning up those bad habits up.
Divorces should cost as much as marriage license.

Ben,
Since you are gone a lot you may already be doing this but I would have your wife and no one else feed him for a few weeks. Feed twice daily. Only what he'll eat, then take up the pan until the next feeding. That way when he's hungry he will look to her for groceries.

Have your wife walk the dog without you and also let her be the one that feeds him and gives him treats and if he still growls at her reprimand him for it. Dogs are much smarter than we give them credit for. My dogs still know who is the alpha in out household!!!

Only B+ is an encounter with another dog but the other dog was the ageessor.
Walks great , goes out great , socializes with other people good
Loves ridin in truck.
Still has to meet some of the grandkids im thinking he will be fine.
Met my brother. Took right up to him.
Problem , sometimes my wife enters some space and he growls. He never growls at me.

Suggestions for wife?

He sees only you as the dominate Alfa member in your family and not your wife.

Ben during my first marriage we rescued a young dog that was severely abused. The bitch that had her beat her n burned her belly with cigarettes. Even though it was a female that hurt her the pup took to my wife. It took time but she learned to trust the whole family. It take a gentle hand. Good luck brother πŸ‘πŸ‘
