Good mornin', John, and welcome to the Forum. You live in a very beautiful place, I'll trade ya.

Well, I wouldn't waste my time fishing with anything else but live shrimp, except when the Macks are running, then you want to use spoons. Take a walk up and down the beaches and talk to the fishermen, talk to the ones with beach carts, chances are they are locals. Do the same thing with the pier, keep in mind the locals have the carts and are the most knowledgeable. Ask them where they buy their bait, they will know where to get the best bait and the cheapest. Look at the equipment that they are using, reels, line, rods, and the rigging that they are using. Ask the guy at the bait shop, find out what he knows. YouTube is your friend. Good luck.

Hey John welcome to the stage. Lived right where you are talking about back in the 70's in my Air Force days. One beautiful area.

On another note, a user on here that goes by Ivey is in Destin vacationing. You might want to use the private message section and give him shout for some intel.

Welcome to the stage John. Flyguy has the answer, the folks with carts are a wealth of knowledge and most are willing to answer questions.

Morning John, Like Plumbob said We're here for a few more days but as far as catching or what bait to use I'm as lost as a ball in tall weeds. Some of the guys I've met here are either using shrimp or cut bait. There was a couple using a 4" swim bait last night but only caught small fish. Good luck and this is a beautiful place but the traffic is nuts.

You're probably right. There was a guy on the dock last night with the cart thing and he did catch a few on cut bait but most were small.

Get a couple chrome 1/2 Oz squid spoons and work that pier early morning for Spanish mackerel, try to get on the end and sling a spoon out as far as you can, and crank it back. The water has not cooled that much yet up there, so they might still be around

Fly is so on the money!
Those guys with the good carts have spent a lot of time off season as well, preparing for more than one day of fishing.
