So last week was amazing...catching 4 and 5 lb bass on jerkbaits and square bill cranks. Today, I was out on a buddy's boat and fished some great looking areas that bass love, spots Iv never fished because I don't have a boat...laydowns points you name it...not even a nibble (still using the jerks and the cranks) after we were done and he left I was frustrated and perplexed as to why no bites so I walked over to the cove that was so amazing last week and fished again with the jerks and cranks...same thing happened...no bites. What's going on? I'm in California and even though were coming into fall the weather hasn't changed that much. Today was in the low 80s. I also realize that fish do move around with the change of weather and current. Should I change baits at this point?

I'm not a bass fisherman, I go for trout and I haven't caught one since 2019, so what do I know? But hey, like you I used to be pretty dang successful. If one thing don't work, try something different. Sure helps to have a boat and a fish finder. Or know your water really well. Find drop offs, points, cover. Keep on keepin on.

Barometric pressure maybe? It doesn't take much of a change in that to make bass go deep.

The north wind is blowing and it always screws up fishing

Mr. Wood E, yes I believe the mystery for me is solved. Thanks for the tip on that. I checked after receiving your message and did notice a dramatic change in pressure.

bHarper, makes a lot of sense. We have had some called wind come through. 2 weeks ago we were in the 90s...today, low 50s.

Start worming
Split shot and Texas rig and drop shot. Also pig and jig , start working your bait slower. Start working the finesse technique. Water might be getting cooler ? This time I do alot of 🪱 lng , Blue and Purplish shades and blood worm colors.
There are times when Bass don't want to chase a bait and it is getting close to that time of the year. Also black shades!!
Or spinner baits slow rolling technique .
Good luck slow down on working your bait !!
Let me know how you do!! Andy

And if that is not enought try even slower!! Or some times I will twech the rod tip as I'm reeling it in slow all the way in. You will get a rhythm as you learn how to do it! Works great with a Texas rig set up..or a Carolinea set up I use a bullet weight them a glass bead then a barrel swivel and a24 inch leader.
Cast out let sit for a few seconds a pull it 3ft let it sit and pull it again use this style of retrieve the bead and the weight hitting each other sounds like a crawdad.
I also use the glass bead with my Texas rig.
Hope this helps you out.
Andy
I'll have to have come up in the spring and take you out in my boat for bass.
Have a good week

Thanks for the offer Andy. I'll try some finesse fishing with drop shots with the colors you mentioned and we can talk about getting together as well later
