No noise coming from drag?

I noticed today that my bass pro formula spinning reel wasn't making the normal drag noise it should when I pulled line to get my lure a little bit further from the end of my rod. However my drag still clicks when I adjust the top knob. Does anyone know what can be causing this? And is this necessary to fix right now? Or is the noise just there to hear your drag scream when you hook on?

There's a little clicker under the spool, maybe the spring that holds it is broke.

I’ve got an older Quantum Energy PTi spinning reel and noticed the inaudible drag and thought I had got a lemon. Did some digging and found out that it was inherent in it’s design. Don’t know if their newer models still utilize this system. Absolutely love that reel but miss the sound of drag.

Just an indicator so you know. Many reels have a switch to turn off or on. Fred hit nail on head. It is good to use with drag set a little loose as a notification device or at night when can hear but not see as well.

After checking the clicker spring, as FredFish pointed out, check to see if the clicker turns.
Had the same issue...a bit of WD-40 and you're good to go.

I might not have understood your question correctly but if braid isn't taped to the inner spool it just spins around the spool, perhaps creating the condition you describe. Google "ghost drag" for a better explanation.
