So I was gifted a ugly stik bait caster and I’m not sure if I should keep it or not, I only really trout fish, is it still good for just trout fishing? I’ve struggled using it and was curious if i should maybe just keep it, or return it for a spinning reel? Thoughts?

If you can’t figure it out by this I mean casting. It still makes an excellent trolling reel. Good luck
When and if you decide to keep it, you will need to learn how to cast it. The reel is unlike any others, the spool unwinds the line, if the spool runs faster than the bait is taking the line out of the way, the reel will 'birdnest', and a mess of line will stop you from fishing, for a while. I have been using them since 16yrs old, and find that I can put more heavy line on a smaller reel, I also have more control of where my bait will land. Here in Louisiana, we have a lot of overhanging branches, and a bait caster, does not do good casting sideways, but most here use them, so does pro tournament fisherman.
