What type of line?

Ok so I've got question about three type of line I've heard off, and what are their qualities/defaults. There is the fluorocarbon line, braided line and nylon line. Is there some particular fish for a particular line, or is the choice influenced by the type of river and obstacles underwater ? I'm fishing in freshwater, and essentially carps and roaches for the moment.

Braid makes the most sense as carp are not line shy.
