I was fishing a tidal portion of the Hackensack river last week. Was using a 2 ounce weight and a 2/0 in-line circle hook with a chunk of Golden shiner on it. I reel in my line 20 minutes later to check the bait and the hook was gone! I tied a Palomar knot and was using 15lb mono. Didn’t here the bell on my rod ring and didn’t feel like I got caught up in any snags when I was reeling in my line. My 2 ounce weight was still attached to the line. I have fished this portion of the Hackensack river many times and have never been bitten off before. Was fishing during an incoming tide. I was thinking Bluefish but are those even in the Hackensack river? Thoughts?

Your going to need a bigger boat.
Crab or pickerel? Both been known to chew line.

Turtle 🐢 also there good for that also your fish on your stringer 🐢🐢🐢
And that is why I believe in Wire Leaders in Salt water especially.
Might have been a fluke. They have some mean teeth.
If it bit the line so fast that the bell didn't ring you might have gotten a Pike or a Pickerel, but especially Pike.
How far up the Hackensack were you?
No way to know for sure but I like you Bluefish guess. In the river estuary I fish here in NC, the blues have come up river way further than last year. 3 to 4 inch menhaden are plentiful. Blues can make short order of 15 lb mono.
Had to be a ten-pound piranha or bigger., hit the bait store and get some piranha BE-Gone and spray your rigs with it. couldn't resist, Catch a monster.
