Well, it would never have happened at the home where I grew up. My father believed that pets, all animals were to live outside!
Once, when visiting one of my mother's brother and his large family mostly of boys, The dinner table had benches on either side to accomodate all. Dad and the boys were seated on one of these benches. A house cat, who had often been fed by the boys, came and jumped up on be bench, expecting to be given something to eat.
Dad, who wasn't accustomed to the animal doing this, took his dinner knife, reversed it, and whacked the cat sharply on its head with the knife handle. The cat then jumped clear across the loaded dinner table and then disappeared. Just Sayin...RJS
