Fishin in the Bishop Ca. area
Where are the hot spots in Bishop and what are they hittin.
Thats a hard one, many lakes and streams and they are all good. Your best bet would go to the local sporting goods store and talk to them, that should give you the most up to date information. I have had good luck with Panther Martins for stream fishing and worms , mouse tails, and power bait from the banks of the lakes. Plus this time of the year the colors should be coming on
bishop creek, north and south forks and the Owens river. Lots of water and during the week you got it all pretty much to yourself. Go get em. And let us know what they're biting on! Photos please. And welcome to the stage.
I've fished up there but it's been awhile, the lower part of the Owens River is one of the best spots, also South Lake is good, but if you follow Bishop Creek toward the town there is great fishing along that entire stretch, use salmon eggs or real nightcrawlers if you want to use bait instead of flies, and take both baits so if don't work hopefully the other will.
Check with the laws because most of those areas are barbless hooks and catch and release only, Bishop Creek if I remember correctly was a catch and release but not sure if they changed that since I lived in Calif over 20 years ago.
The fish in that area are spooky, so all I used was clear 2 pound test, which means set the drag light and play the fish, take a net too.
Since it's been over 20 years since I've been there I'm not sure how good the fishing is up there since there's been a prolonged drought going on, so I strongly suggest you do some local digging around.

Google "Sierra Trout Magnet Fly Shop", they put out a weekly fishing report, for upper and lower Owens River and surrounding area I love that countryside !!
I’ve been fishing there for 55 years and still haven’t fished or found all the spots to fish yet. Just jump in and get your feet wet.
