I have a friend named Captain Dewey who charters a boat out of Half Moon Bay which is about 125 miles north of Monterey or 70 north of Santa Cruz. He could give you the best info. Talk to him at 650-888-5125

Ive only heard of Santa Cruz Pier, 2 days ago my daughter and friend were slaying the Surf Perch, and her friend caught a 7lb halibut late thursday afternoon, she lives there, good luck,,

They fish the pier or the surf or both? I need to make a trip over there.
Hey Chief ,yeah my daughter and a friend from college spent the day up and down the beach by the pier until people started arriving but she said they caught a couple dozen Perch, she said 10 or more were bigger than there hand they used grubs with tails she thinks,then they had lunch and fished the pier in different locations , her friend caught a 7lb halibut on perch heads, they caught other small fish that she didnt know what they were, perch were in the morning, and halibut about 6pm ,she lives about amile from there, senior year at UCSC
Oh to be young and in Santa Cruz.

Thanks for the info - we'll probably hit Santa Cruz tomorrow based on this info. I heard from another guy at a bait shop I go to that the perch fishing is good in Santa Cruz right now too - he also said the smelt are everywhere. A 7 lb halibut off their? Good on her !!

When im there I always try Capitola thats my personal favorite, good perch and when theyre around the occasional Striper, perch I use root beer, or motor oil grubs, yozuri 5-6" hardbaits, i've since switched to LuckyCraft Surfpointers, good luck, i'm sure youll have a great time just being there!
Don't forget to buy some artichokes. Capitola is the artichoke capital of the world

Hi all, Iām new to the forum just wanted to chime in, Santa Cruz pier a couple of days ago they were catching red rock fish and some lingcod. All at night between 7-10 pm, about midway up the pier. Some perch near the beginning of the Santa Cruz pier.
