Heading up to Mercer Wi next week to seek the toothy critter. First time on this flowage. I’ve watched the you tube and have a date with a guide, just wondering if any of the locals have some free advice

Welcome to the Forum, Omaryam, If you have a guide, and if he is any good, which some of them are not, he will tell you what to use and how to use it. Good luck!

Check out Lake Link, WI Outdoor News or the DNR website for fishing reports. The nighttime air temps have been dropping so the water temps will follow and turn them on. Share those pics of your successes! Good luck!

I used to fish the flowage when I lived in the Minocqua area but that was 40 years ago. I didn’t have the patience for Musky fishing but when I did, I had the best luck with live suckers. I did catch a lot of good size Northerns though - mostly in the weed beds. Red & white daredevils worked the best, by far.
If you end up being satisfied with the guide, could you personal message me with the information? I am going to be in that area visiting my parents in October and would like to spend a day fishing while there. Good luck & have fun.

Will do. We were referred to a guide by a guide from Green Bay who we know personally. Will forward his info after we spend a day with him.

Thanks for the input. We know jake and have fished with his dad numerous times. They are good people. We were actually booked with Smitty on the flowage last Sept but had to cancel the trip due to COVID.

We fished with a guide named Dale Anderson, from Mercer Musky and More, says he spends 100 days a year, most on the flowage. Nice enough guy, good boat, definitely knows the water. Flowage is about 3’ down, it will rebound a bit in October when the Manitowish chain is lowered. He showed us a number of spots but no fish.

Thanks for getting back with the information. Sorry you didn’t catch the beast but that’s the nature of musky fishing. Any day on the water is a good day in my book.
