Keys wade fishing shoe options?

Headed to the Keys to do some wade, flats, and kayak fishing with a friend. Considering footwear, do I need a pair of flats boots, or will typical water shoes with aggressive soles work fine? Is ankle protection needed? Appreciate all feedback.

You will have to be careful of the stingrays, do the stingray shuffle. The more protection, the better. I went wade fishing trout down by Corpus Christy and the guide had a pair of crocks over his waders. I thought to myself, this is not going to be good, and trust me, it wasn't.

Fly is right! Protect Protect!
ps. Stay away from felt bottom shoes if you go fishing from rock jetties or check the regs.. Many states have banned them do to the transport of critters lodged in them and then transported else where.
