Skipjack is herring in the Cumberland and Tennessee river. Commonly called Tennessee tarpon by the way they clear water when hooked like bass do. I’ll post a pic of one next time out. They were chasing small shad bankside so I threw a small silver spoon with a stinger treble hook and caught some five inches and cut them up put them straight on a number 7 circle for cats. If there is any cats around pole won’t sit long. Cut up skips release oil and cats hone in on them fast. YouTube has a few videos catching skipjack

Those skipjack sound like the hickory shad I catch in spring. They're strictly catch and release though.

Great fish and great hat. Seems there should be two of those hats in the photo. Sun exposure is cumulative. I am not scolding you. As a matter of fact, I am sitting here uncomfortably sunburned because I forgot to switch out my small brim baseball style hat for the one like in the photo. It just seemed like a great opportunity to remind everyone that being safe is a 24 hour proactive battle. There are too many good people on here to start getting "I'm out" cancer reports. Enjoy. I really miss the big cats on this side of the Cascades. It's all about bullheads here.

That’s my brother in the photo. Believe me I’m fair skin and well covered taking the photo. I’ve had skin cancer burnt off me and it’s not pleasant. Only wish I had protected myself better in my youth because it has caught up with me. I bath in lotion and totally covered when I’m out fishing.
