I stay in touch with a few guides in/around Port Isabel and South Padre Island and from what I'm hearing the spawn for speckled trout is on! It has been going since late spring for some fish, but now it is really heating up. As wonderful as that is, please remember we went through a terrible freeze a few months ago. The real experienced pro's feel that our losses were way higher than the published reports indicate and that our fishery will be stunted for possibly six years or more. So, when you hook into one of those old sows, and any breeders, unless they are deep hooked, please, please turn them lose. Take lots of pictures of them, kiss 'em if that's your thing and then gently slip them back in the water.
Brownsville Tony: You have that right, man! No one is so hungry they have to kill a sow trout laden with eggs! Just Sayin...RJS

I agree Tony. We had a freeze a few years ago and lost a lot of Spotted Sea Trout. Everybody lets any 20 inch go. Its a gentleman's agreement. Working good for us.
It's no Brainerd. The choice us a couple fish now or any fish later.

They certainly are pretty. And tasty on a grill as well.

Morning Fly, are they up and down the east coast and the gulf?
I've caught a few when I was in NC fishing the outer banks. Got some trolling with my daughter's FIL in Southport NC as well
