This introduction comes after my first post! I originally come from Chicago area but now I’m a transplant to beautiful Minnesota.
I’m retired and live on Silver Lake in North St Paul. I enjoy fishing for anything, as long as I can get it to bite! I’m lucky to have different lakes to try out. This week I’m going up to the Gunflint Trail and hope to do some smallmouth and walleye fishing. Any advice is welcome. I look forward to enjoying the advice from this group!

I used to fish strictly Salt water, but sold my big boat and took up Bass fishing. Occasionally a Pike or 2, and Trout once and a while.

Welcome Grey from a former cheesehead neighbor now in TN. Flyguy, a regular on here is a Minnesota boy and may have some tips for you. You are in a great state for fishing. The Land of 10,000 Lakes if I remember that right. A little different pace than Chi-town for you.
Absolutely a different pace. I’m loving living here since ‘96. Lots of lakes. I’ll check out Flyguy!

Welcome to Minnesota, I live in Buffalo, Mn. for a Gunflint fishing trip, look at baits / lures 3 to 4 inches in length maximum. I have done several trips to the BWCA, and Arrowhead area, small spinners, plastics, jigs and spoons can work well. I have used jigging spoons for ice fishing, to even catch trout in small lakes in that area. Light colors work well during the day, while darker colored baits are best during over cast days and after dark. A black popper after dark can be used all day or night. I have caught whitefish in deeper water on a silver blade spoon, bass on small worms and minnow baits. I do fishing guide trips around Central Minnesota, Jiggin Jim's Guide Service.
Thank you for the advice. I can try it out on Wednesday. I’ll let you know what works!
