Musky time

Ben Bragg Loc: Dayton Ohio

My company issued mandatory vacation days of July 6-9
Dang it!!!
Some of those days will be spent pursuing the giant musky that inhabit Caesar Creek lake. 45 minute drive from home.
Have caught em there before. My big was a fat 42 incher.
Don’t fish em nearly as much as I need to.
It’s the ole fish of 10000 casts vs filling the freezer with limits of saugeye and some pretty impressive white crappie

Guy I work with got a 52 dragging a bass crankbait behind his yak.
Skinny fish. In prime coulda been state record

The area I plan based on how the season is going. Lots of above average temps and some severe fronts . I’m going deep into the feeder creeks. 2 merge and I’m concentrating on the north branch .
It deepens up to about 8 ft for about half a mile and is about 65 ft wide

After storms it gets muddy first but clears a week ahead of rest of lake. And the water temp in July is typically 4-6 degrees cooler.

For what ever reason Shad pile up way upstream when the waters hot. And the big musky follow em.

Lures I’m gonna concentrate on is a double cowgirl probably black and Nickle . Would love to have white but can’t for the life of me , can’t find one
Next up , a magnum Shad rap in a hand painted white bass
Then last but not least a big magnum rapala jerkbait. Standard silver and black

For rods, close quarters work so the big sticks stay home.
Tranx 300 on a 7-6 mojo musky for the cowgirls
And actually taking a couple heavy bass sticks
A st croix Avid 7-4 with a Curado DC
And a st croix Mojo 7-4 with a Shimano Tranx 200

Hand tied single strand wire and 80# flouro leaders. A big net, and a little luck and I’ll be in business.

If you guys can spare a little mojo, do it during this period. Around July 4 would work.
Thanks !!

Too bad about that mandatory vacation problem. But it looks like you have a plan. And it sounds like you’re prepared for anything!

Good luck and good fishing! Send pics.
