Question about worm farming

Howdy,

I've had success in the past with vermicomposting using small red wiggler worms. Can I use the same type of equipment and methods for fishing worms? I have an abundance of large worms that I can harvest from "the woods" next to my house. If I put them into the worm bin with damp leaves, damp shredded paper, and feed them veggies like i did my composting worms will they survive / thrive?

I'm in NE Texas and don't know what kind of worms they are. We just call them worms.

I'd build it on the ground so if it gets too dry they can go deep and survive. They will move back up when the soil moisture is good. 4x4 square of concrete blocks maybe 2ft high with some good soil, leaves, small sticks and produce scraps works. Only downside with that is it might attract rats

That's why I hand dig my raised beds gardens. I collect the worms as I go. Same with my two compost bins.

PapaJ: I don't think it would hurt anything. In fact, there should not be any difference as far at the worms are concerned. Just Sayin...RJS

It should work. I do keep my worms in a large old Coleman cooler filled with moist Bass Buz Bedding. I bought a container of worm food from Sheels and they are doing fine. I periodically open the cooler to assure they have enough O2.

I always heard cut the back of the refrigerator lay down fill it with whatever you’re feeding the worms and they should return there all the time
