Well guys we had another decent day. Probly caught bout a dozen fish. Jim, who's 95, caught bout 10 and I caught a few. His largest was bout 3 1/2 pounds. No pic of that one, early release right at the boat.
I had one hit my swimbait like a freight train and ZOOM to deep water. I knew it wasn't a bass, but a steelhead.
Fought it for a couple of min and got it a little ways from the boat and I could tell it was goin to come up and jump. I kept my rod tip down at the water but it didn't keep him from doin it.
When he tried to jump it was like he was too big to get fully out of the water. Looked to be 24 inches + and bout 6 inches deep. I estimated him to weigh bout 4 or 5 pounds. Needless to say when he jumped he spit my swimbait.
Easily would have been the largest steelhead I've ever caught out there.
OH well. I wish I would have landed it but on the other hand, I'm kinda glad it got off cause I probly would have kept it and I really wouldn't have needed to.
Here are a few from today.
By the way, found another anchor today AND I took some pics of them, all 4.
You told me once but I don't remember. How are there steelhead in a lake? Isn't a steelhead a rainbow with access to the sea? That's what I've been taught. Anyway, they can sure get the adrenaline going, even if you don't land em. Thanks as usual for the photos.
Great π job as always looks like the both of you had a wonderful day be sure to save some for our trip itβs been awhile since I had a good catch day on the water π¦

Nice! Apparently that's not the right anchor to use there
Nice job Steve, and excellent catching Jim. The smile says it all, Glad you guys found some to play. That's quite an assortment of ground tackle you found there. A couple look like new. Thanks for the pictures.

That feeder stream/creek to the Russian River had/has a population of steelhead that comes up from the Russian River.
When they built the dam quiet a few were trapped up stream and couldn't return to the ocean. They continued to spawn in the future years and there is a hatchery at the bottom of the dam now. They use to stock some of the steelhead up in the lake but stopped years ago because there's a healthy population of them that live and spawn in the feeder creeks that feed the lake. They don't look like a rainbow trout either. They look like a silver bullet.:

Catch one and post a photo. You sure they're not Kokanee? If you had one on that was 24 inches, that's a huge Kokanee. So, probably not. Never know with you though.
Jim is a lucky man to have such a good friend. Great job putting him on the fish. When can we see the βSawβs anchors salesβ ad on the Stage? πππ

No Spirit. They're Steelhead, not Kokanee. Sonoma doesn't have any Koks.

Hey guys, I forgot about a crappie I caught today. Had it in the live well and just remembered it.
Took a pic before I cleaned it. Thing was bout a pound.
Awesome...extraordinary and magnificent...the best 3 words I can dredge up to describe your outing! Way to go! Gosh, that steelhead would have been a great addition to the day in your cooler, but then again, you still have a very nice memory of that jump!
