White Bass on Mississippi River

Noticed a lack of White Bass on a good stretch of the river and checked with an Iowa Biologist. Seems as tho a virus started in a feeder creek down in the Southern part of the state and spread to the main river, they shocked young of the year fish at Guttenburg last fall so it looks like they are making a come back. The large Shad schools have been missing for a few years also , they must be vulnerable to the virus .

Igatemaggot: Well, if the gizzard shad were killed off due ot a virus, it will definitely affect the white bass, that is their main food source. Just Sayin....RJS

White Bass were killed by the virus , not the lack of Shad. They were BOTH hit by the disease !
